We’re Hiring: Senior Estimator
The Senior Estimator is responsible for leading the estimating department and ensuring the delivery of accurate, complete, and competitive bids. This role oversees day-to-day estimating operations, mentors and develops estimators, and collaborates closely with operations to ensure seamless project turnover and execution. The Senior Estimator plays a critical role in driving company sales, profitability, and customer relationships while maintaining the highest standards of quality, ethics, and professionalism.

What You'll Do
  • Oversee the daily management and performance of the estimating department.
  • Ensure all GMI estimates are accurate, complete, and competitive prior to submission.
  • Review and validate quantity takeoffs, pricing, scope coverage, and final bid packages.
  • Ensure strict adherence to company bidding protocols and procedures.
  • Build new customer relationships and maintain strong relationships with existing clients.
  • Collaborate productively with the Operations team to support successful project outcomes.
  • Lead and ensure quality project turnover to the Project Management team upon award.
  • Train, mentor, and develop Estimators, including oversight of the Preconstruction Employee Development Program (EDP).
  • Negotiate vendor pricing and define subcontract scopes.
  • Prepare detailed, professional proposals and technical narratives.
  • Contribute strategically to company sales growth and profitability goals.
  • Maintain the highest level of ethics, integrity, and adherence to company policies.
What We're Looking For
  • Team player capable of working within an assigned team and with other GMi teams.
  • Quick learner with the ability to learn on the job and teach others, including provision for technical guidance and supervision to architects, structural engineers, and general contractors.
  • Strong decision-making ability given complex operating, administrative, and procedural decisions, with the ability to diagnose and quickly solve issues in a dynamic environment.
  • Strong experience in the construction field, specifically the drywall, metal framing, acoustical ceiling, and exterior cladding trades.
  • Effective communication capabilities, both written and verbal, with the ability to follow through on documentation.
  • Knowledge of architectural design, planning principles, and procedures with technical knowledge of building components and their function.
  • Ability to read schematic blueprints and technical manuals.
  • Knowledge of the operating practices of construction, architectural, and building firms, including an understanding of federal, state, and local building codes, ordinances, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of construction contract documents and specifications. 
  • Strong organizational skills, including defining, acquiring, deploying, managing resources, and establishing priorities.
  • Capable of negotiating vendor pricing & contract scopes.
  • Skill in the use of computers, specifically a PC, Windows-based operating system, e-mail, Excel, and Word.
  • Complete knowledge of how OST and Quick Bid work and the ability to apply to each bid.
  • Complete understanding of all parts and pieces that make up our scope of work and how to build that into an estimate.
  • Understanding of all UL designs for our scope of work and how that relates to the plans and specs.
  • Understand the specifications and how they relate to the plans.
  • Ability to prepare a professional and detailed proposal.
  • Competency in unit costs, historical data & SF cost for appropriate market segments.  
  • Ability to review and ensure accurate take-off and pricing are assembled for each bid before submitting.
  • Successfully completed a minimum of 6 months in operations, managing projects in a PM role.
